Why movement is one of the most empowering things ever

It taught me how to trust myself. The beginning of the most important relationship. The one with yourself.

I have always been interested in what movement does to the mind.

When I went to Mysore to practice yoga for the first time, at 22, it wasn’t my weight I was trying to fix. It wasn’t a medical condition I was hoping to solve. It was my mind.

I was seeking something. I didn’t know at the time what exactly.

There had always been this feeling of being a misfit. Of being restless. Of not belonging. Of being misunderstood. I never felt like anyone around me spoke my language- mostly bcs I didn’t know what language i spoke.

Even though everything was okay on paper, I never felt like I knew who I was. I never knew what kind of music i liked, what kind of food i liked or what i liked to do with a free afternoon. I was just doing what was ‘supposed’ to be done.

There was a lack of self esteem due to a lack of authentic and honest self concept/identity, due to a lack of knowing who I was. I had trust issues with myself.

The first trip to Mysore was short and got over quickly. I didn’t feel much, except that i must continue doing this practice.
